ANNUAL CONFERENCE
University of Queensland, Brisbane
15-17 July 2026
Our annual conference is taking place at the University of Queensland from Wednesday 15 July to Friday 17 July 2026. Keynotes will be delivered by Janet McLean (University of Auckland) and Irit Samet-Porat (Kings College London), with an introduction and comments from the Hon Justice James Edelman AC (High Court of Australia). The subject of the book symposium will be Money, Parties and Democracy by Matteo Bonotti (Monash University) and Zim Nwokora (Deakin University), with commentaries by Stewart Braun (Australian Catholic University), Lisa Hill (University of Adelaide) and Graeme Orr (University of Queensland).
Registration and program
It is still possible to register for conference proceedings or plenary sessions; registrations for the conference dinner are closed.
The conference begins with the PhD Workshop and the first keynote address on Wednesday 15 July followed by two full days of parallel sessions, a second keynote address and the book symposium on Thursday 16 July and Friday 17 July.

Conference venue
All parallel sessions will be held in the Forgan Smith Building (West) and all plenary sessions will be held in the Abel Smith Lecture Theatre. More information about the conference venue and getting to the St Lucia campus is available here.
Accommodation
Conference attendees are responsible for booking their own accommodation.

Parallel Sessions
Papers will be presented in parallel sessions of 2-3 papers per session. The conference will also feature a private law theory stream, co-sponsored by the Australian Centre for Private Law, alongside regular parallel sessions. Each paper is allocated 30 minutes (including presentation time and time for discussion).
PhD Workshop
A PhD workshop will be held from 1pm-4pm on the first day of the conference. The workshop provides PhD students with the opportunity to receive feedback on work in progress on any topic in legal theory in a supportive and collaborative environment. Participants will be expected to submit a full draft two weeks in advance.
